St. Mary’s Church – Melton Mowbray

Mission Statement

  • Bringing people to a knowledge of God
  • Providing spiritual and pastoral commitment within the Parish and the wider community
  • Being open to all in sharing the mission of Jesus
  • Worshiping together in the churches of our Parish

Although St. Mary’s is a large town centre church, we guarantee you a warm welcome whenever you visit or attend our services. Described as the ‘Stateliest Parish Church in Leicestershire’ by Pevsner, it dominates the town centre Church Street Melton Mowbray LE13 0PW.  Dating from 1170, with many additions up to the 1500’s until it became the building you see today. Internal re-ordering has also been done over the centuries with major works by the Victorians in 1865, and again by us in 2017.

RUNNING THE CHURCH

The fabric is kept in good order by our churchwardens, Canon Ian Neale, and Brenda Munton, who are assisted by a team of Assistant Wardens, and various sub committees of our District Church Council. They meet regularly through the year to reflect and discus on decisions concerning the life and activities of St. Mary’s.

Being a Team Parish, we come under the umbrella of the Parochial Church Council, and day to day running is devolved to the individual church DCC’s.

The DCC of St. Mary’s is made up of elected church members, Members of the PCC for St. Mary’s, Members of the Deanery Synod for St. Mary’s, pastoral assistants, along with the officers, readers, and clergy.
